Back in August 2017, Google had announced Android 8.0 Oreo. Over the past few months, several smartphone vendors have released the Oreo update for some of their smartphones, and some brands have promised to release the update soon. Well, we now have one more smartphone maker who has finally announced its plan for Android 8.0 Oreo rollout, and it’s someone who we didn’t expect. After more than five months of the release of Android 8.0, Vivo has announced that it will update seven of its smartphones with Android 8.0 Oreo, and the rollout will start from April, 2018.

Vivo Android 8.0 Oreo Update: Compatible Phones

Vivo has revealed through a post in its official forum that its software engineers have started working on the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Funtouch UI for the company’s phones. However, in the first phase, the brand will roll out only the beta version of the update to one smartphone, starting April, 2018. The Vivo X20 will be the only model which first will receive the taste of the Android 8.0 Oreo (beta) update. Later, the Chinese smartphone company will roll out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to six other devices.

Here’s the complete list of Vivo smartphones that have been confirmed to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update:

  2. Vivo X20 Plus
  3. Vivo X9s
  4. Vivo X9s Plus

There’s no doubt that the upcoming Funtouch OS version will include most of the features (if not all) of Android 8.0 Oreo, including the redesigned settings menu, updated notification panel, Picture-in-Picture mode, adaptive icons, and more. However, there are no details available right now about when this new update will be released globally. In case Vivo makes the ROM available on its official website, Vivo smartphone users living outside China would be able to flash it and run the latest Funtouch OS version on top of Android 8.0.
